Need for project management software

It’s no secret that the most important element for a successful construction project is a Detailed Programme to Completion (DPC). In order to come up with one, though, you need to have MS Project on your computer.聽It is certainly a great improvement in comparison to the old days!

Back then we had to find a roll of wallpaper or a superseded Drawing and put a program on that by hand. As you can imagine, there were certain issues with that choice:

a. The program couldn’t be detailed enough.
b. Handwriting could be quite a challenge in some cases.
c. It was almost impossible to deliver it to all the different members of the project on time.

MS Office in Construction Project Management

MS Office changed things a bit and helped a lot with some practical problems:

1. It made the e-mail communication process simpler and more efficient. Thanks to it, you can easily that are sensitive.

2. MS Excel is also a great help for people in construction. There are many who use it regularly for all their sums and cash-flow forecasts.

3. Word can be really useful, as well. It lets us write letters, , Memos, etc.

So there we have, in a few words, the basic software functions that are essential for the construction industry (MS Office and MS Project for those who can come up with a DPC).

Now all that is great and makes for a much more productive working day than when we had to do everything by hand. However, it still means we have loads of paper we have to file away and store, and that costs us time and money. Plus, of course, it costs us time out of our day if we need to send an e-mail to several people because we have to click through Contacts to get their individual e-mail addresses.

I speak for myself, but my answer is 鈥淣o!鈥

-Accessibility by all the different agents of the project, from the clients down to every ganger man, or even tradesmen.
